D E L I V E R A N C E

Well, it sure was hard - the hottest (and hardest) run I ever did. But the crowds and the lucozade pulled me through and I managed the marathon in 4 hours and 47 minutes. It was such hot weather to run in, all my training was in 0 - 10 degrees over winter and running in 20 degrees with bright sunshine was a real grind. I worked out that I consumed around 3 litres of water and about a thousand jelly babies. It was without question the hardest thing Ive ever done; at the start I was thinking that I had done JUST enough training to complete a really good half marathon!

I ran with Pat (one of the Hampshire Air Ambulance Aircrew Paramedics) around the course for a bit, he pretty much told me to stop winging about the heat and get on with it! The mans a machine! I hit the wall from around miles 15 - 19 but then started pushing through it somehow. Nothing like any training run I have ever done and it totally took me by surprise. I think I cried about three times around the course, but like the old cliche goes, the crowds stir something within you that forces you to press on past what you think is possible.
Towards the finish my leg muscles were literally seizing up, but somehow I managed to draw on some spare energy and motivational thoughts and ran the last 200 metres through that finishing line.

My legs are really punishing me for it 3 days later and I'm hobbling around like an old man with some brilliant blisters. But, all for a good cause and that's one i can tick off the bucket list; I will never forget the experience as long as I live. I was lucky enough to get a great finishing photo, real "grrrrrrr"!

The donations are still coming in (I'm at £447 at the moment), and i hope they will continue to do so over the next few weeks - don't worry - i will keep chasing people for their pledges!

This is the best medal I ever got

Jamie on air!

Yesterday (Sunday) was the Bournemouth Half Marathon. it was an extremely hot run, and i didnt have breakfast...but i still made it round the course in around 1 hour 51 mins, which was ok...

Highlight of the day was recognition at the end of the race, when the commentator gave me a mention as I came around the finish line - brilliant!

also, I was talked to a friend who is a reporter on the BBC. He was doing a 2 minute recording of the day  for broadcast on BBC Radio Solent on Monday morning. It was a really well done and I thought was a good reflection of how nice a day it was.

20 mile endurance

ok well it was almost 20.

19.66 miles according to mapmyrun but im sure that isnt 100% accuracte anyway (this is how i convince myself im doing ok). Plus it was super super hilly as well, and that wasnt accounted for

received my LoMar prep pack the other day, which means that ive only got another 4 weeks to go until race day! bliimey, actually getting excited now :)

race vesto is ordered (at a crippling amount of money - £90) but hey, I will only ever do this once so I am quite happy to buy it...I'll frame it afters. Ordered it from a company call OWAYO - they have been excellent and really supportive - the final design is below.

Monday will be my final long distance endurance run before I start tapering, Im hoping 20 - 22 miles or so, turns out the secret to running is good music and around 4 Skittles taken every mile after mile 14 (you know - them funny little sweets). I will be using them again, they are great!

here is the run

17 Mile

My first 17 Mile run.
The furthest ive ever gone.
I tasted the wall.

Mon 28th Feb
Cold, dark and a bit boring. Statswise.....
Duration = 3 hours (180 minutes)
Calories Burnt =  2162
Averaging an 11 minute mile.

So, if i can maintain an 11 minute mile, my maths tells me 11 mins to do one mile, 286 minutes to do the 26 miles. This is 4.7 hours or 4 hours 42 minutes. Thats what the maths says...thats a long time to hop and I need to start getting into my head that I will be running for 286 minutes or around 5 hours....its MENTAL! =)

It definitely had its ups and downs, metaphorically and literally. The first 14 miles or so were fine, but after that, my state of mind was increasingly altered by sugar (Engery) intake and the amount of hills I encountered...

Lessons I learnt were BRING LOTS OF FOOD! im just trying to find out what works best for me in terms of food.

route below!

Brighton Half Marathon...Done!

I ran 13 miles this Sunday in the Brighton half marathon, enjoying tea and medals as I passed through the finish line. It was a good run, a new personal best of 1 hour 43 (excluding 1 minute wee break at mile 1 - always happens to me=/

Here's a picture to show i did actually do it, note the dense amount of fluffy hair that i selected to wear in the 'extended' position that day that I believe affected my aerodynamics. If it was in the 'lowered' position I believe I may well have come first. Shameless infringement of copyright here but oh well...
catch me if you can!
